Orthopantomogram is one of the dental connected x-rays that’s used for diagnostic and treatment purposes. It’s taken to view the complete mouth radiography, which shows the upper and lower jaw with teeth, additionally shows the temporomandibular joint. The dentist suggests taking an OPG when it’s required to detect dental connected diseases.
It helps and detects the following:
Tumors in the jaw, Fracture, And Post-trauma.
Dental caries, abscess, wisdom teeth placement, and angulation, before the removal of teeth.
Remaining teeth, therefore view impacted teeth.
Post-trauma.
During OPG x-rays, you will be asked to stand or sit in front of the x-ray machine and rest your chin on a plastic rest. You will also need to bite down gently on a mouthpiece, to ensure your head remains still during the procedure. Part of the machine then rotates around your head as the images are being taken.
Often, and probably the most common, use of an OPG is for the detection of a non-painful yet destructive infection at the base of a tooth root that causes the death of a tooth or the presence of an often silent, non-painful, and progressing jawbone infection called periodontal disease.
